Gwangmyeong City to Provide Purchase Subsidies for 210 Electric Vehicles in the Second Half of the Year

On July 2, Gwangmyeong City announced that, as part of its "Eco-friendly Vehicle Supply Project," it will partially subsidize the purchase cost for eco-friendly vehicles such as electric passenger cars, electric trucks, hydrogen vehicles, and electric two-wheelers.

In the second half of the year, subsidies will be provided for a total of 150 electric passenger cars, with up to 9.8 million won per vehicle. If the vehicle is purchased for use as a taxi, an additional 2.5 million won in national funding will be provided. If a young person purchases a vehicle as their first car, 20% of the national subsidy amount will be added. For members of multi-child families, up to an additional 3 million won will be provided depending on the number of children. Households in the lower income bracket or below can receive an additional 20% of the national subsidy amount.

Support for electric trucks will cover 60 vehicles, with up to 16.5 million won per vehicle. Small business owners or those in the lower income bracket or below can receive an additional 30% of the national subsidy amount. If the vehicle is purchased for use in delivery services, an additional 10% of the national subsidy amount will be provided.

For hydrogen vehicles, up to 32.5 million won per vehicle will be provided. For electric two-wheelers, the subsidy amount will vary depending on the model and performance.

Eligible recipients include citizens, companies, corporations, and public institutions that have been registered residents of Gwangmyeong City for at least 60 days and are 18 years of age or older. After signing a purchase contract for an eligible vehicle at a manufacturer's dealership, the dealership will apply on behalf of the buyer through the "Zero Emission Vehicle Integrated Website." Corporations and individual businesses purchasing two or more vehicles should submit their applications through the Korea Environment Corporation.

Detailed information on eligible vehicle types and other specifics can be found on the Gwangmyeong City Hall website or the Zero Emission Vehicle Integrated Website, or by contacting the Carbon Neutrality Division at City Hall or the civil service call center.

Previously, the city increased its share of the subsidy burden from 42.9% to 47.6% by securing 2.71 billion won in city funding, despite a reduction in national subsidies from 4.43 billion won last year to 2.96 billion won this year.

In addition to purchase subsidies, the city also offers separate incentives for eco-friendly vehicle purchases. If buyers apply for the "Climate Volunteer Carbon Piggy Bank Points" within one month of vehicle registration, they will receive 30,000 points for cars and 15,000 points for two-wheelers.

Park Seungwon, Mayor of Gwangmyeong, said, "Thanks to the active participation of our citizens, we are able to continue supporting the supply of eco-friendly vehicles in the second half of the year," adding, "We will continue to provide administrative and financial support to citizens participating in the realization of carbon neutrality."
