The Emergency Response Committee of the People Power Party held its first meeting since the launch of the leadership under Song Eon-seok, who serves as both committee chair and floor leader, to discuss the formation of the party's Innovation Committee and the schedule for the party convention.
Park Sunghoon, the People Power Party's floor spokesperson, told reporters after the committee meeting held at the National Assembly on the afternoon of July 1, "During the introductory meeting and discussion, there was a conversation about the party's future direction."
During the meeting, members generally agreed that both the party convention and the formation of the Innovation Committee should take place as soon as possible. Park stated, "There was a suggestion that the party convention should be held at the earliest possible date, and that it would be preferable for the Innovation Committee to be launched soon as well."
When asked whether Song Eon-seok, the committee chair and floor leader, had one or two candidates in mind for the position of Innovation Committee chair, Park responded, "That seems to be the case," and added, "If things move quickly, the Innovation Committee could be launched as early as this week."
Additionally, the committee addressed the appointment of the chair of the National Assembly's Strategy and Finance Committee, a position allocated to the People Power Party. As a result, three-term lawmaker Lim Ija was nominated for the post.
Regarding the appointments for the currently vacant positions of Policy Committee Chair and Secretary-General, Park stated, "No decisions were made today, and it appears these matters will be handled at the next committee meeting."
