Regarding Yongin FC's application for K League membership, Mayor Lee stated on July 1, "We have taken another step closer to establishing a professional football team that fulfills the wishes of our citizens." Previously, on June 26, Yongin FC submitted an application to the Korea Professional Football League, outlining plans to use Mir Stadium as its home ground and to participate in K League 2 starting from the 2026 season.

The league will review and supplement the submitted documents, then present the matter to the board of directors, after which the final decision on membership will be made at the general assembly.

The city expects that league participation will proceed smoothly, as it has established not only a systematic founding plan and a corporation, but also a youth (U-18) team, which is a key factor in the evaluation process.

Mayor Lee said, "We will spare no effort in providing various forms of support so that Yongin FC, which will participate in K League 2 next year, can grow into a club that enhances the pride of our citizens and elevates the status of our city."

The city plans to begin full-scale efforts to assemble the team for the 2026 season, with Kim Jinhyung as general manager and Lee Donggook as technical director.
