Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) announced on July 1 that it is pushing forward the introduction of a new service tentatively named "Everyday Logistics Rail+Delivery," which will allow customers to use parcel delivery services at train stations.
The Everyday Logistics Rail+Delivery service will enable anyone to easily and conveniently use parcel delivery through unmanned parcel lockers installed inside stations.
In particular, the service offers the advantage of being available at about half the cost of regular parcel delivery services, and it can be used quickly before boarding or after disembarking from trains, saving time for people with busy schedules.
To introduce the Everyday Logistics Rail+Delivery service, KORAIL will publicly recruit operators to manage unmanned parcel lockers at 12 stations, including 8 KTX stations (Yongsan, Cheongnyangni, Daejeon, Dongdaegu, Busan, Jeonju, Yeosu Expo, and Gangneung) and 4 metropolitan subway stations (Sindorim, Gasan Digital Complex, Noryangjin, and Hoegi).
The selected operator will install unmanned parcel devices in spaces within the stations (up to 2 square meters) and will be responsible for operating the related services.
KORAIL will also hold a business briefing session at 3:30 p.m. on July 9 in the Yongsan Station conference room. Any company interested in participating in the bidding process can attend to receive information about the project overview and application procedures.
Business proposals will be accepted from July 17 to 18. Further details regarding eligibility and how to submit applications can be found on the KORAIL website.
Han Moonhee, President of KORAIL, stated, "Following our luggage storage and delivery services within stations, KORAIL plans to introduce parcel delivery services to further enhance space efficiency. We will continue to discover and promote projects that are closely connected to people's daily lives so that railway stations can be reborn as comprehensive platforms equipped with a wide range of convenient facilities."
