Vice Mayor Hyunok Cho Concludes Her Public Career,
Leaving a Lasting Impact on Gyeongnam Province and Yangsan City
Vice Mayor Hyunok Cho of Yangsan City, Gyeongnam, held a retirement ceremony at Yangsan City Hall on the 30th, marking the end of her 34-year public service career.
The retirement ceremony was attended by more than 300 public officials, including Mayor Dongyeon Na of Yangsan, bureau and department heads, as well as the vice mayor's spouse and children. Commemorative plaques and awards for her service were presented during the event.
Vice Mayor Cho was born in 1966 in Haman County, graduated from Dankook University with a degree in business administration, and began her public service career in 1991 as a Grade 7 civil servant. She was promoted to local director in 2017 and to deputy director in 2021, serving in key positions such as head of the National Industrial Complex Promotion Team, director of the Development Headquarters at the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority, and director of the Department of Autonomous Administration. On January 1, 2024, she was appointed vice mayor of Yangsan City, concluding her 34-year public service career.
During her tenure, she achieved outstanding results in various fields, including receiving the highest rating in the joint evaluation of major city and county affairs, being selected as the top institution in the Gyeongnam Province tax administration evaluation, and attaining first place in the province for early fiscal execution.
Vice Mayor Hyunok Cho stated, "Among my 34 years of public service, it was a great honor and privilege to serve as vice mayor in Yangsan City, which is experiencing the most dynamic and remarkable development in Gyeongnam Province." She added, "Although I am stepping down from the position of vice mayor of Yangsan City as of today, my affection and interest in Yangsan City will remain unchanged," delivering her final farewell.
