Medytox's Body Fat-Reducing Probiotic "MT961" Approved as Individually Recognized Functional Ingredient

Bio-pharmaceutical company Medytox announced on the 30th that its independently developed probiotic, "MT961" (raw material name: Lactiplantibacillus plantarum LMT1-48), has been recognized by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) as an individually approved functional ingredient that may help reduce body fat.

Unlike notified ingredients listed in the MFDS Health Functional Food Codex, individually approved functional ingredients are newly developed materials whose functionality and safety have been proven through preclinical and human application trials. Because they undergo strict screening, the entry barrier is high. However, once recognized as an individually approved functional ingredient, the manufacturer can exclusively produce and sell the material for at least six years, providing a significant advantage in securing market leadership.

Medytox conducted a human application trial of "MT961" on 120 adult men and women aged 19 to 70 with a body mass index (BMI) of 25 kg/m² or higher and less than 30 kg/m². Participants consumed "MT961" daily for 12 weeks, resulting in a reduction in body fat mass and body fat percentage in various areas such as the torso, arms, and legs. In addition, the research paper on this trial was published in the SCIE-level international journal "Nutrients," scientifically validating the excellence of "MT961." Medytox also secured exclusive rights related to the strain and its use by completing patent registrations for "MT961" in 2016 and again in April of this year.

Aiming to launch its first health functional food based on "MT961" in the first half of next year, Medytox plans to actively leverage the expertise gained from its patented probiotic "Kanui Achim" to make a full-scale entry into the market. The company has also set a policy to accelerate the development of follow-up products and gradually expand its market presence.

A Medytox representative stated, "'MT961,' the body fat-reducing probiotic, is one of the key future growth engines developed by Medytox after years of research," adding, "We will make thorough preparations for its launch so that it can grow into a flagship product for Medytox through extensive promotion and marketing."
