"Promptly Addressing the Task of Protecting Public Lives Through Close Consultation"
The Korean Medical Association (KMA) has expressed its welcome for the nomination of Jeong Eun-kyeong as Minister of Health and Welfare.
On June 30, the KMA issued a statement regarding the nomination of Jeong, saying, "It is highly significant that a person who has devoted herself to overcoming national crises has been entrusted with such an important role," and added, "The KMA regards this as a decision that reflects the President's strong determination and sincerely welcomes it."
The KMA continued, "Nominee Jeong is an expert who did her utmost to protect the lives and safety of the public during the unprecedented national disaster of COVID-19," and added, "Her expertise, rational attitude, and deep understanding of public healthcare will be of great help in overcoming the current healthcare crisis."
Regarding Jeong's remarks in her statement immediately after her nomination the previous day, in which she said, "I will swiftly resolve conflicts between the government and the medical community through sincere communication and cooperation," the KMA stated, "We deeply resonate with this determination and will actively work to restore trust and build a cooperative relationship with the government, always putting public health first."
The KMA also said, "As the new government's personnel appointments are becoming full-fledged, we will do our utmost to promptly address important tasks to protect the lives and health of the people through close consultation with the National Assembly and government ministries."
