On June 30, Lotte Corporation announced that it will host the unique sports event, the "2025 Lotte Aquathlon," at Seokchon Lake and Lotte World Tower on July 6.

First launched in the summer of 2022, the Lotte Aquathlon is now in its fourth year. The event combines swimming in Seokchon Lake with the Lotte World Tower vertical marathon, known as "Skyrun." This year, participants will swim two laps around the east lake of Seokchon Lake (a total of 1.5 km), followed by a stair climb from the first floor to the 123rd floor of Lotte World Tower, ascending 2,917 steps.

For safety, participants who have no official swim record from the past five years or are joining the event for the first time must complete a pre-event swimming test the day before the competition. Those who do not pass the swim test may only participate in the running event, climbing Lotte World Tower, and will be excluded from the swimming segment.

Registration for this year's event opened on May 23 through the Korea Triathlon Federation, and the 800-person limit was filled on the same day. All participants will receive commemorative items, including a T-shirt, swim cap, and finisher's medal. The top three male and female finishers in the overall category will be awarded a trophy and a Spider gift certificate.

Lotte, in collaboration with the Songpa District Office in Seoul, has been working to improve the water quality of Seokchon Lake for five consecutive years. The company operates water purification boats to conduct cleaning operations twice a week and uses photocatalysts, which trigger chemical reactions under light, to reduce underwater pollutants. Thanks to these efforts, Seokchon Lake has become clear enough to see depths of over 2 meters, and last year, it received a top-grade rating in most water quality assessment categories.

On the day of the event, an "AR Seokchon Lake Water Quality Promotion Exhibition" will be held to promote Lotte's ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) campaign. Visitors can scan the QR code on the water droplet standee located at Seokchon Lake, which will trigger an animation of a water droplet character appearing in the middle of the lake and throwing soil balls to help improve the lake's water quality.

Lee Mihyun, head of marketing at Lotte Corporation, said, "We hope the Lotte Aquathlon, an exhilarating and unique sports event in the heart of the city, will mark the start of a vibrant summer."
