National Heritage Administration to Host "Korea Traditional Landscape Grand Exhibition"
A platform for creatively inheriting and developing the value of traditional landscape spaces is set to unfold.
The National Heritage Administration announced on June 30 that it will be accepting submissions for the "Korea Traditional Landscape Grand Exhibition" from July 1 to September 30. This is the only competition in the field of traditional landscape architecture in Korea, with a total prize pool of 30 million won. The agency plans to discover new aspects and the integration of technology, and to reflect these findings in policy development.
The competition is divided into three categories: ▲Digital Design for Traditional Landscape Architecture ▲Photography and Video of Modern and Contemporary Traditional Landscape Spaces ▲Outstanding Construction Cases of Traditional Landscape Architecture. In the Digital Design for Traditional Landscape Architecture category, the competition seeks creative design ideas that apply digital technology to Korean traditional gardens. Winning entries will be used as foundational data for standard models of Korean traditional landscape spaces.
In the Photography and Video of Modern and Contemporary Traditional Landscape Spaces category, the competition is looking for photos and videos featuring traditional landscape spaces from before 1990. The National Heritage Administration will use submissions that help identify changes during the modern and contemporary periods, along with related materials such as old documents, as reference data for the restoration and maintenance of traditional landscape spaces.
The Outstanding Construction Cases of Traditional Landscape Architecture category aims to discover exemplary cases of indoor and outdoor traditional landscape spaces in Korea that were completed by last year. This new category was established this year to encourage the revitalization of the traditional landscape industry. Eligible participants include individuals or organizations with relevant achievements.
The winning entries will be announced on November 3. The actual works will be exhibited at Seonwonjeon Hall in Deoksugung for eleven days starting November 17.
