The Book Day, now in its third year, is a reading culture event in which residents participate. It was designed both to share the value of reading and to spread a culture of sharing through books.
At the event, Mayor Park stated, "The Book Day is an event created to revive the fading culture of books and to encourage people to share books they have finished reading with others. Mapo District is transforming into a neighborhood where more and more libraries, both large and small, are opening, and we will continue to make strong efforts to enhance the reading culture."
This year’s event, held under the theme "Picture Books, It's Great That They're Here" to commemorate the Year of Picture Books, was hosted by Mapo District. The event was organized with the participation of The Book Day Promotion Committees from 16 neighborhoods, 15 public libraries, the Mapo Welfare Foundation, and Saemaeul Library. It was sponsored by Hongdae Hotel, Youngpoong Bookstore, Daeyeon Company, and Miterre.
Approximately 1,000 people, including Mapo District residents, participated in The Book Day event. They enjoyed a variety of programs such as the "Thrifty Book Market," "Reading Culture Experience and Exhibition Booths," "Classic Picture Book Concert," "Meeting with Picture Book Author Kim Dongseong," and the "Outdoor Library."
