Channel Name Changed to 'Karakula Animal Rescue'
"Channel Revenue Suspended... Will Not Accept Donations"
YouTuber Karakula (real name Lee Sewook) is returning as an animal rescue YouTuber after being inactive for about a year.
On June 27, Karakula posted a 4-minute and 15-second video titled "It's been a while since I last greeted you" on his YouTube channel. He announced that he would be engaging in animal rescue activities by changing his channel name from "Karakula Media" to "Karakula Animal Rescue."
Karakula stated, "I am greeting you in front of the camera for the first time in a year," and added, "First, I sincerely apologize to everyone for causing significant controversy and public disturbance." He repeatedly apologized, saying, "Everything happened because of my own shortcomings and lack of qualifications. I am truly sorry."
He continued, "I am a clown," explaining, "A clown is someone who entertains by drawing laughter and tears for their audience, but during this time, I forgot my role as a clown and caused disappointment and anger to my audience." He went on to say, "The years I spent crossing boundaries without self-awareness, driven by the rapid increase in subscribers and recognition, ultimately led to a harsh backlash from my audience. It was a consequence of my own actions, as I neglected the saying that when you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss also gazes into you."
Karakula also said, "With all kinds of suspicions and falsehoods circulating about me, I will not bother to explain what is true and what is not," and added, "Just because a clown who has made mistakes hides from the world out of fear of criticism and ridicule, it does not make those mistakes disappear. For the sake of the many people who have supported and cheered for my channel, I believe it is my duty to do everything I can to restore the name 'Karakula' that I have tarnished, no matter how long it takes." He concluded the video by saying, "I will show my remorse for past mistakes not just in words but through my actions. Please watch my future steps. If I am given another chance, I will become someone worthy of your trust."
In a pinned comment on the video, he also stated, "Channel revenue has been suspended, and I have no intention of running a donation account," adding, "I will move forward quietly, bearing the heavy responsibility for my past actions."
Karakula suspended his YouTube activities in July last year after it became known that he had been accused of aiding YouTuber Gujaeyeok (real name Lee Junhee) in blackmailing and demanding money from the famous "mukbang" YouTuber Tzuyang (real name Park Jeongwon) by exploiting her past. He was later sentenced to one year in prison, suspended for three years.
