Nurse Park Soyou of Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital Presents Research on End-of-Life Care for Cancer Patients at International Conference

Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital announced on June 28 that nurse Park Soyou presented the results of her research on end-of-life care for cancer patients at the 2025 MASCC (Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer)·ISOO (International Society of Oral Oncology) Annual Meeting, which was held in Seattle, United States, on June 27.

The MASCC·ISOO conference is an internationally recognized academic event in the fields of supportive care for cancer patients and oral oncology. Medical professionals and researchers from various countries participate in this conference to share the latest research findings and treatment methods for cancer patient care, establishing it as a major annual academic meeting.

At this conference, nurse Park presented her research under the theme "Healthcare Utilization and End-of-Life Care According to Types of Life-Sustaining Treatment Decisions for Cancer Patients."

This study analyzed how healthcare service utilization and approaches to end-of-life care differ depending on the types of life-sustaining treatment decisions made by cancer patients at the end of life. The findings are expected to serve as foundational data for establishing a patient-centered end-of-life care system in the future.

Park Soyou stated, "It is very meaningful to be able to share the results of my efforts to develop practical nursing strategies for patients and families preparing for the end of life on the global stage," and added, "I will continue to conduct research and apply it in practice to realize patient-centered nursing."

Lee Aekyung, head of nursing at Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital, said, "This presentation will serve as an opportunity to promote the expertise of nurses in end-of-life care internationally and to enhance our hospital's reputation in the field of cancer patient care."
