Experts Say "Preemptive Strike on North Korea Unlikely"

US President Donald Trump stated that "if there is conflict, it can be resolved" regarding relations with North Korea.

On the 27th (local time), President Trump met with reporters in the Oval Office and, when asked whether he had exchanged personal letters with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, emphasized their positive relationship by saying, "I get along very well with Chairman Kim." However, he did not provide a specific answer as to whether any letters had actually been sent.

US President Donald Trump asserted, "If there is conflict, I will resolve the conflict with North Korea."

He went on to say, "Some people describe this as a potential conflict, but even if that were to happen, I believe it can be resolved," expressing his willingness for diplomatic solutions while not denying the possibility of direct confrontation.

These remarks were made as President Trump hosted a delegation of African nations at the White House to discuss mediation diplomacy. He added, "We are working to resolve issues in many conflict regions, and this is the right thing to do."

Recently, Trump sent a strong message to the international community by ordering a precision airstrike using B-2 stealth bombers in response to the Iranian nuclear threat. The operation, known as 'Midnight Hammer,' involved bombers launching from the US mainland and striking three Iranian nuclear facilities. Afterward, Trump also mentioned the possibility of regime change in Iran.

Amid these developments, some have raised the possibility of a similar response targeting North Korean nuclear facilities. Key sites such as Yongbyon and Kangson have been cited as potential targets, but experts remain skeptical about the feasibility of such actions.

There is a significant difference between Iran and North Korea in terms of nuclear weapons capability. While many assessments suggest that Iran has not yet reached the completion stage, North Korea is believed to have already deployed dozens of nuclear warheads. The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) in Sweden recently estimated in its annual report that North Korea possesses about 50 nuclear warheads.

As a result, there are concerns that if the United States were to launch a preemptive strike against North Korea, not only the entire Korean Peninsula but also US forces in Japan and Guam could become targets for North Korean retaliation. Some analysts interpret Trump's remarks on North Korea as a strategy to leave room for diplomatic maneuvering.
