Doohee Lee Appointed as Vice Minister of National Defense
Vows to Lead Institutional Reform for a Strong Military Trusted by the People
Vice Minister of National Defense Doohee Lee stated on the 27th, "I will lead institutional changes and innovation so that the military can remain faithful to its essential mission and focus solely on its original duties."
At his inauguration ceremony held at the Ministry of National Defense building in Yongsan-gu, Seoul on the morning of the same day, Vice Minister Lee said, "I will do my utmost so that our military can be reborn as a 'strong military trusted by the people,'" making these remarks.
Vice Minister Lee assessed, "The security environment we are currently facing stands at a critical juncture of international order realignment," and added, "North Korea, after dispatching troops to the Russia-Ukraine war, is strengthening its strategic ties with Russia, while advancing its nuclear and missile capabilities. At the same time, our allies and friendly nations are also prioritizing their own security and economy, attempting various changes."
He continued, "In this rapidly changing international order, our military must firmly establish deterrence capabilities based on the ROK-US alliance and pursue practical defense cooperation that can contribute to achieving our national interests. We will build overwhelming military power by utilizing advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, strengthen K-defense industry capabilities and defense exports, and make every effort to improve the service conditions of our soldiers."
Vice Minister Lee also stated, "Going forward, I will listen closely to the diverse voices you share, engage in sincere dialogue, and communicate openly without barriers. I will strive to unite your strength and foster close cooperation so that we can nurture an advanced and strong military trusted by the people."
