Kim Oseong of Daegu Junggu Council Urges Resumption of "Kim Kwangseok Singing Contest"

Kim Oseong, a member of the Daegu Junggu Council (People Power Party, Seongnae 2, 3-dong, Daesin-dong, Namsan 2, 3, 4-dong), raised questions about the resumption of the Kim Kwangseok Singing Contest and the importance of communication between the bereaved family and the Junggu District Office during the 2nd plenary session of the 306th regular meeting held on June 24.

Kim Oseong emphasized, "Are you saying that the reason Kim Kwangseok's songs cannot be heard on Kim Kwangseok Drawing Road is simply because the space is too small?" He stressed that the issue with the Kim Kwangseok Singing Contest is not about space, but rather a lack of communication.

He also stated, "In countries like China and Taiwan, when people think of Daegu, they immediately think of Kim Kwangseok Road. It has become a brand and a cultural asset." He argued that it took more than a decade for Kim Kwangseok Road to become what it is, from the Munjeonseongsi Project in 2010 to the present day in 2025, and that it should no longer be neglected. He proposed the resumption of the Kim Kwangseok Singing Contest through amicable negotiations and a formal contract with the bereaved family.

He continued, "Kim Kwangseok Story House was newly built in 1977, but now faces problems such as its location, which makes it difficult for tourists to visit, limited space, and safety issues." He emphasized the need for a proper and prompt relocation process for Kim Kwangseok Story House, supported by high-quality content and a well-established plan.

Kim Oseong stated, "Both the bereaved family and the Junggu District Office are equally passionate about preserving Kim Kwangseok Road." He expressed the intention for the Junggu Council to serve as the focal point and act as a bridge, and suggested that all parties communicate, coexist, and cooperate.
