On June 26, the Seoul Eunpyeong Police Station announced that it had referred 15 individuals?including drug smugglers, distributors, and users?to the prosecution on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act and other related offenses. Among them, seven individuals, including drug smugglers, distributors, and habitual users, were handed over in detention, while eight others, such as those who provided locations for drug use and simple users, were referred without detention. The police have seized approximately 160 million won in criminal proceeds and are tracking additional suspects.
According to the police, the group is suspected of distributing drugs imported from Hong Kong through applications or websites targeting sexual minorities, or of using drugs at specific male-only sleeping room establishments.
The drug smuggler is believed to have smuggled drugs on 23 occasions between January last year and May this year, supplying them to distributors. The sleeping room establishments where users consumed drugs were unlicensed and operated as illegal variants. The police have notified local authorities of these violations and plan to ensure that administrative measures are taken.
A police official stated, "We will strengthen crackdowns not only on drug crimes in vulnerable areas such as clubs and entertainment venues, but also on the sale and use of drugs in unlicensed sleeping room establishments and other illegal variants."
