Dongjak District Opens "Dongjak Sindaebang Social Welfare Center"

Expanding Community-Based Welfare Services

Dongjak District in Seoul has established and officially launched the Dongjak Sindaebang Social Welfare Center (33-1 Daerim-ro, 2nd floor) to redefine the role of social welfare centers in response to changes in the local community and to strengthen welfare services.

On June 24, the district held an opening ceremony attended by Park Ilha, mayor of Dongjak District, representatives from related organizations and the welfare center, as well as about 60 local residents. The event marked the creation of a key space in the Sindaebang area to address welfare blind spots.

The Dongjak Sindaebang Social Welfare Center covers a total area of 202.92 square meters and is equipped with various spaces including offices, small meeting rooms, and program rooms. The center began trial operations earlier this month, and with its official opening, residents of the Sindaebang area can now access a range of welfare services without having to travel long distances.

The district plans to utilize the center as a community-based welfare hub, enhancing access to welfare services through space-based welfare projects and education, leisure, and cultural programs tailored to residents' needs. Next month, a variety of programs will be offered, including sock yarn crafts (doorbells), cinnamon pot making, movie screenings, and spoon Nanta performances.

Meanwhile, the district is also operating welfare project-type social welfare centers that promote specialized projects tailored to each neighborhood, such as Daebang, Dongjak Isu, and Heukseok, based on public-private cooperation systems. Each center is building neighborhood-based care systems and promoting community revitalization through projects such as "Our Neighborhood Welfare Experience Center," "Our Village Neighbor Connection Project," and "Heukseok-tong Village."

Park Ilha, mayor of Dongjak District, stated, "Through the Dongjak Sindaebang Social Welfare Center, we aim to care for vulnerable groups in the community and eliminate welfare blind spots," adding, "We will continue to develop various support policies so that all residents can enjoy a happy life."
