"We Support 'Another National Representative'... Daegu Veterans Office and Samsung Lions Hold Ceremonial First Pitch Event for Uniformed Personnel"

Three Generations of Patriotic Service
75th Anniversary Korean War Appreciation Campaign

On June 25, in commemoration of Patriots and Veterans Month and the 75th anniversary of the Korean War, the Daegu Regional Veterans Office (headed by Kim Jongsul) held an event at Daegu Samsung Lions Park in partnership with the Samsung Lions, inviting uniformed personnel for the 'Another National Representative' ceremonial first pitch and first bat, as well as to watch the game.

At the event, Inspector Lee Eunjung (Daegu Bukbu Police Station), a member of a police family that has served the country for three generations and who was selected as a '2025 Honorable Veterans Family,' took the mound for the ceremonial first pitch. Kim Jongsul, head of the Daegu Regional Veterans Office and the official responsible for veterans policy in Daegu and Gyeongbuk, stepped up for the ceremonial first bat. Both delivered a message of gratitude to uniformed personnel by energetically throwing the ball and swinging the bat amidst enthusiastic cheers from the crowd.

Inspector Lee Eunjung's grandfather, the late Lee Bonggyu, was a national hero who fought as a police officer during the Korean War and was killed in action in the Battle of Dabudong. Lee Eunjung herself currently serves as a police officer, making her part of a 'three-generation uniformed family.' In recognition of these distinguished contributions, she was selected by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs as an 'Honorable Veterans Family' and received a commemorative plaque.

A variety of events were also prepared for spectators attending the game. The 2nd Operations Command Honor Guard delivered a precise performance, heating up the atmosphere, followed by a gratitude campaign for the 'Another National Representative' uniformed personnel and the 'Veterans Dream for All' campaign for national merit recipients. Soldiers from the 2nd Operations Command also joined the audience, adding to the significance of the occasion.

Kim Jongsul, head of the Daegu Regional Veterans Office, stated, "Today's event is not just a sports event, but a symbolic moment to remember the dedication to the nation and to express respect for uniformed personnel." He added, "I deeply thank national merit recipients and veterans' families for their sacrifices, and I will continue to do my best to ensure that honoring veterans remains a living part of our daily lives."

In May, the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs selected 14 individuals from families that have demonstrated patriotism as uniformed personnel across three generations as 'Honorable Veterans Families' and is conducting various campaigns to share their stories with the public. This collaboration with the Samsung Lions also provided an opportunity for citizens at the ballpark to reflect on the spirit of national defense and to highlight the value of those in uniform.
