This meeting was organized to allow the mayor of Yeoju to visit the school in person, listen to the voices of the youth, and freely exchange opinions on key issues. Daesin High School students actively participated in the meeting, sincerely sharing their concerns about inconveniences experienced at school and in the local community, as well as various suggestions to improve youth welfare.
During the meeting, students proposed the creation of more shelter spaces where young people can relax freely, the expansion of cultural complex spaces for diverse activities, and the establishment of a movie theater to provide greater access to cultural experiences. They also requested improvements to the school's aging swimming pool facilities, citing difficulties in conducting physical activities due to outdated infrastructure. Additionally, students called for the expansion of career experience programs and suggested increasing the number of public transportation options (such as buses and Ddokta) during commuting hours to make it more convenient for students to travel to and from school.
Furthermore, they noted that the Yeoju Namhangang Suspension Bridge opened in May, and that this year was declared "The First Year of Yeoju Tourism." To attract more tourists, students proposed transportation policies such as expanding the tourist circulation bus system, increasing the operation of metropolitan buses, and running KTX trains.
Mayor Lee Chungwoo expressed deep empathy with the students' suggestions, stating, "We will actively review and implement practical improvement measures in cooperation with relevant departments so that young people can nurture their dreams in a better environment." He added, "I will continue to visit the field to listen directly to the voices of the youth and ensure that their opinions are reflected in city administration by providing ongoing opportunities for communication."
Daesin High School, where this meeting was held, is a school that actively engages in student-centered educational activities in close connection with the local community. The school supports the dreams and growth of young people by operating various autonomous clubs, sports activities, and career exploration programs. In particular, students demonstrated a high level of interest in local issues, presenting their concerns with a proactive and mature attitude during the meeting and engaging in active communication with the mayor of Yeoju.
This meeting provided a valuable opportunity for young people to freely express their opinions as key members of the local community. Yeoju City plans to continue actively reflecting the voices of youth in city administration and to pursue ongoing youth communication policies in the future.
