Korea Minting, Security Printing & ID Card Operating Corporation (KOMSCO) announced on the 25th that it will produce and sell the "80th Anniversary of Liberation Commemorative Medal" to mark the 80th anniversary of Korea's liberation.
The commemorative medal will be available for pre-order on a first-come, first-served basis from June 30 to July 11 through KOMSCO's online shopping mall and Poongsan Hwadong Yanghaeng (online). The products are scheduled to be shipped sequentially starting in mid-August.
The front side of the medal symbolizes the Republic of Korea's growth, which has been connected to the world since liberation, as 80 waves. A geometric pattern inspired by the number "80" is also engraved as a design element.
The reverse side features a design based on the semiconductor wafer pattern, one of Korea's main export products, and incorporates a polyhedral pattern to provide anti-counterfeiting functionality.
The commemorative medal is available in limited quantities in both gold and silver versions. The gold medal is made of pure gold (Au 999), weighs 15.55g, has a diameter of 32mm, and is limited to 815 pieces. The silver medal is made of pure silver (Ag 999), weighs 31.1g, has a diameter of 40mm, and is limited to 1,945 pieces.
KOMSCO explained that this commemorative medal is produced in the highest "Proof" grade among medal manufacturing standards, enhancing the precision and artistic quality of the piece.

I hope this commemorative medal will serve as a work of art that reminds us of the noble meaning of liberation and awakens our national pride."
