Professor Hyun Kim of SeoulTech Receives "Young Scientist and Engineer Award"

Recognizing the Challenging Spirit and Outstanding Achievements of Young Researchers

Seoul National University of Science and Technology announced on June 26 that Hyun Kim, Professor of Electrical and Information Engineering, has been selected as the recipient of the "Young Scientist and Engineer Award" jointly organized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Institute of Electronics and Information Engineers (IEIE), and sponsored by the Haedong Science and Culture Foundation.

Professor Hyun Kim is an expert in artificial intelligence semiconductors, focusing on the convergence and integration of platform research at the architecture level, algorithm level, and memory level, all under the broad research theme of artificial intelligence semiconductor digital design. He has led advancements in the fields of AI accelerator design, AI model optimization, and AI-specialized memory design by publishing more than 60 papers in domestic and international journals and over 240 papers at domestic and international academic conferences.


In addition, he has made significant social contributions by serving as an executive in various domestic academic organizations, including the IEIE, and as an organizing committee member for academic conferences. He has also participated in numerous advisory and project planning and evaluation committees for government ministries related to semiconductors. Internationally, he was selected as an IEEE Senior Member at a young age and plays a pivotal role in the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society, while also serving as an organizing committee member and editorial board member for various international academic conferences.


Through such active research and academic activities both domestically and internationally, Professor Hyun Kim has contributed to the advancement of academic research in Korea's semiconductor field, enhanced the nation's prestige, and promoted mutual understanding among scholars worldwide. He is recognized as a leading figure expected to drive the future of Korea's semiconductor industry.


Meanwhile, the selection criteria for this award focused on technological practicality, contributions to society and the environment, and creativity. Currently, there are nine countries that have established a Joint Award in cooperation with the IEEE headquarters: Korea, France, Iceland, Chile, India, Uruguay, Peru, Singapore, and South Africa.
