Hampyeong-gun, South Jeolla Province, announced on June 24 that it has signed a $160,000 export contract for Gimbap Gim with Ukraine, officially launching its efforts to enter the global food market.
The county signed a $160,000 export contract for Gimbap Gim with the Ukrainian distributor 'VICUNAI-UKRAINA. LTD' and held a loading ceremony on the same day.
This export deal is the result of several months of negotiations following the county's initial meeting with a Ukrainian buyer at 'SIAL Paris 2024', the world's largest international food exhibition, held in Paris, France in October 2024.
Starting with participation in the Bangkok Food Expo in Thailand in 2023, the county has continuously worked to expand overseas markets by taking part in international food exhibitions in six countries across Europe and Asia.
As a result, the county signed a $100,000 export agreement for Nabi rice with a French distributor, successfully exporting 18 tons, and has established itself as a 'global K-food hub' by successfully exporting a variety of local agricultural specialties, such as Shine Muscat grapes and Dosirak Gim, to countries including Vietnam, Cambodia, and Russia.
County Governor Lee Sangik stated, "We are currently in active export discussions for Gim with buyers from Cambodia and Russia, and plan to hold loading ceremonies soon. We will continue to expand the global reach of Hampyeong's agricultural specialties, focusing on the 'K-HC (Korean Food-Hampyeong County)' brand."
