Jeollanam-do announced that the Seonggyungwan Confucian Association Jeonnam Headquarters held a Yulim Leaders General Meeting at the Naju Culture and Arts Center on the 24th, where Yulim members pledged to improve their inherent qualities and reaffirmed their commitment to practicing benevolence, righteousness, propriety, and wisdom, as well as restoring morality.
Benevolence, righteousness, propriety, and wisdom are the four essential virtues that a person should possess according to Confucianism, referring to kindness, justice, etiquette, and wisdom.
The general meeting was attended by over 500 members of Confucian organizations, including Jeonnam Governor Kim Youngrok, Naju Deputy Mayor Ahn Sanghyun, Naju City Council Chairperson Lee Jaenam, Seonggyungwan Director Choi Jongsoo, and Seonggyungwan Confucian Association Headquarters President Lee Kwonjae. The event included a ritual at the Confucian shrine, the presentation of appreciation plaques and commendations, congratulatory speeches from distinguished guests, and an invited lecture.
In his congratulatory speech, Governor Kim stated, "It is the spirit of Confucianism that has enabled the Republic of Korea to become a world-leading nation today," and added, "Going forward, I will continue to take the lead in realizing a united society together with the Confucian community of Jeonnam."
The Seonggyungwan Confucian Association Jeonnam Headquarters, with approximately 9,000 members in 29 city and county branches, leads efforts to cultivate proper morality among residents through annual Yulim Leaders General Meetings and the publication of collections of filial piety essays, among other initiatives.
Jeollanam-do is making significant efforts to promote Confucian culture by supporting five Confucian organizations in the province, including the Seonggyungwan Confucian Association Jeonnam Headquarters, with funding for leadership education programs, Seonbi culture forums, and Yeongho-Nam Confucian cultural exchange academic conferences, among other projects.
