Issuance and Cashback Event Starting July 1
Geumcheon District in Seoul will issue 4 billion won worth of Geumcheon G-Valley Sarang Gift Certificates early at a 5% discount starting July 1, and will also hold an additional 5% cashback event.
The Geumcheon G-Valley Gift Certificate is a mobile-only local gift certificate issued to revitalize the local economy. The district previously issued a total of 12 billion won worth of gift certificates in the first half of the year, which sold out. For the second half of the year, to boost sluggish consumer sentiment and support small business owners facing economic difficulties, the district will bring forward the issuance of 4 billion won in gift certificates originally scheduled for the Chuseok holiday, and will issue them early starting at 12:00 p.m. on July 1.
In addition, a 5% cashback event will be held simultaneously. The 5% cashback will be paid out in the form of the same gift certificate at the end of the month following the use of the Geumcheon G-Valley Gift Certificate. The event will end automatically once the allocated budget is exhausted. When the event ends, the phrase "5% payback at payment" at the top of the gift certificate will be removed.
The gift certificates can be purchased at a 5% discount off face value through the Seoul Pay Plus (SeoulPay+) app, up to a monthly limit of 500,000 won per person. With the cashback event, users can receive 5% of their spending back, making the effective discount rate 10%. However, the event only applies to the (new) Geumcheon G-Valley Sarang Gift Certificates issued since April last year.
Purchased gift certificates can be used at over 7,000 affiliated stores in Geumcheon District, including cafes, restaurants, pharmacies, and hair salons. If the gift certificate has not been used after purchase, a full refund is available. If part of the gift certificate has been used, for payments made via bank transfer, at least 60% of the balance must be used to qualify for a refund. For payments made by credit card, refunds and gifting are not permitted.
Yoo Sung-hoon, head of Geumcheon District Office, said, "We are issuing the Geumcheon G-Valley Gift Certificates early and holding the same cashback event as we did during the Lunar New Year holiday to help boost small business sales and household finances," adding, "We will continue to actively support the revitalization of the local economy."
