Jinju City Expands Wooden Architecture Globally ... Canadian Delegation Visits Key Sites

Opening a Platform for Exchange on the Value and Potential of Wooden Architecture in South Korea

Jinju City in South Gyeongsang Province announced on the 24th that a delegation of five members from the Canada Forest Investment Innovation Institute (BCFII) and Canada Wood Group visited Jinju, where they toured the city's representative eco-friendly wooden buildings and held meaningful discussions on future cooperation.

This visit marked the second international stop following visits to Miyazaki and Kumamoto prefectures in Japan, and served as a significant opportunity for Jinju City to be introduced as a leading city for wooden architecture in South Korea.

The delegation conducted on-site visits focusing on Jinju City's flagship examples of eco-friendly wooden architecture: the Jisoo Nammyung Jinchwi-ga and the Munsan-eup Community Autonomy Center.

Both buildings were completed with approximately 160 million won worth of Canadian wood and construction technology support. The delegation was able to directly observe Jinju City's wooden architecture technology and achievements through these examples.

During the morning, the delegation visited the Jisoo Seungsan Buja Village area and the Munsan-eup Community Autonomy Center in succession, where they met with Vice Mayor Cha Seokho to engage in in-depth discussions on the revitalization of wooden architecture and the future of cooperative relations. The delegation especially expressed their hope that Jinju City will continue to serve as a model eco-friendly city and a hub for both the nation and the region on the international stage.

In the afternoon, the group visited major wooden architecture landmarks in Jinju, including Jinju Fortress, Mulbit Naru Rest Area, and Jinyangho Woodland, where they experienced the harmony of Jinju's history, culture, and eco-friendly architecture.

Vice Mayor Cha Seokho stated, "Thanks to the continued interest of the Canada Wood Group and their support in providing wood and construction technology on two occasions, Jinju City's eco-friendly wooden architecture projects have been able to advance further. Taking this meeting with the Canadian delegation as an opportunity, we will seek practical cooperation measures such as technology exchange and workforce development in the field of wooden architecture, so that Jinju City can establish itself as an international hub for eco-friendly wooden architecture."
