The special prosecutor team led by Min Joongki, which is investigating allegations related to Kim Keonhee, wife of former President Yoon Sukyeol, is reportedly considering establishing a total of eight investigative teams.
According to a member of the special prosecutor team on June 23, Special Prosecutor Min plans to soon form eight investigative teams, with each team assigned to handle specific cases.
Each team is expected to consist of five prosecutors, including one chief prosecutor, along with investigators and other personnel.
The special prosecutor's office completed a request for the dispatch of 40 prosecutors on this day. Among them, eight are chief prosecutors. Each chief prosecutor will serve as the head of an investigative team.
However, the special prosecutor team stated that the plan for the team structure has not yet been finalized. Special Prosecutor Min told reporters in the afternoon, "We are still discussing how to assign the teams and who will be responsible for which cases."
The special prosecutor team is investigating 16 cases, including allegations of stock price manipulation involving Kim Keonhee, suspicions that companies provided bribe-like sponsorships to exhibitions organized by Covana Contents, and allegations of receiving luxury goods. Accordingly, it is reported that the team is considering assigning two cases to each of the eight teams as a basic plan, as well as other possible team arrangements by case.
On this day, Special Prosecutor Min made an initial request to the Commissioner General of the National Police Agency for the dispatch of 14 police officers, including one senior superintendent and two superintendents. In addition, the team plans to soon request the dispatch of investigators from the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, as stipulated by the special prosecutor law, which requires the assignment of at least one public official.
The special prosecutor team is expected to begin formulating a detailed investigation plan as soon as the dispatch of investigative personnel is completed. The team is reportedly planning to officially move into its office at KT Gwanghwamun Building West in Jongno-gu, Seoul next week.
