Namyangju City Council Attends Completion Ceremony for
'Namyangju Gungjip Viewing Environment Improvement Project'
The Namyangju City Council in Gyeonggi Province (Chairman Jo Sungdae) announced on the 23rd that it attended the completion ceremony for the 'Namyangju Gungjip Viewing Environment Improvement Project' held on the 20th at Namyangju Gungjip in Pyeongnae-dong, and celebrated the completion of the project.

This project aimed to improve accessibility for visitors to Gungjip and meet parking demand in Pyeongnae-dong by constructing a public underground parking lot. On the ground level, the project created community spaces such as a pond and viewing paths, and improved the surrounding area. A total of 20.8 billion won was invested in the project, which began construction in 2023 and was completed in June 2025.
Approximately 200 people attended the ceremony, including Chairman Jo Sungdae, city council members, Namyangju Mayor Joo Gwangdeok, members of the National Assembly and Provincial Council, local residents, and tourists. The event began with a pre-ceremony performance by the Cheonmasan Pungmulpae, followed by the opening and calligraphy performance, introduction of guests, commemorative and congratulatory speeches, opening performance, and a commemorative photo session.
Chairman Jo Sungdae stated, "Today marks a meaningful occasion as Namyangju Gungjip, a precious historical and cultural heritage of our city, is reborn as an open space accessible to all citizens. I would like to express my deep gratitude to everyone who has dedicated their time and effort to this project."
He continued, "Through this project, a public underground parking lot has been established, and on the ground level, green spaces and a plaza for citizen interaction have been created. This has brought our cultural heritage even closer to the citizens, and I hope that Namyangju Gungjip will become a true 'cultural heritage for the citizens,' taking one more step into the daily lives of our community."
Meanwhile, Namyangju Gungjip is open free of charge from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Various experiential programs will be offered, including 'The Wedding Invitation Sent by Princess Hwagil, Youngjo's Youngest Daughter' from June 21 to November, and the 'Namyangju Gungjip Night Tour' in October, transforming the site into a complex cultural and artistic space where history, culture, and the arts come together.
