The Special Committee on Budget and Accounts of the Chungnam Provincial Council announced that it has reviewed the 2024 fiscal year settlement, reserve fund expenditures, and fund settlement approval items under the jurisdiction of the Chungnam Provincial Office of Education, and plans to submit them for final deliberation at the 4th plenary session of the 359th regular meeting scheduled for June 24.

The total budget for the 2024 fiscal year settlement approval proposal submitted by the Provincial Office of Education was tallied at 5.1725 trillion won, with total revenue settlement at 5.1844 trillion won and total expenditure settlement at 5.018 trillion won.

The net surplus carried forward amounted to 43.7 billion won, of which 12.1 billion won was processed as a carryover to the following year.

During the settlement review process, the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts stated, "In 2024, both revenue and expenditure were executed relatively stably; however, balances and carryover projects continue to occur repeatedly." The committee further pointed out, "In particular, it is necessary to enhance the management of specified carryovers and continuing expenditure carryover projects, and to improve the practicality of execution plans."

Meanwhile, in this review, the committee approved the settlement proposal submitted by the Provincial Office of Education as originally proposed, while also requesting corrections and institutional improvements in three areas: ▲ refraining from using remaining facility funds for other construction projects and providing quarterly reports, ▲ preparing detailed project plans before budgeting, and ▲ establishing one-stop protection and support programs focused on students who are victims of school violence.

Park Jeongsik, Chairperson (Asan 3, People Power Party), stated, "Rationality and transparency must be ensured throughout the entire process of budgeting, execution, and settlement," and added, "I urge each department of the Provincial Office of Education to make active efforts so that recurring issues in future settlements can be resolved."
