A Variety of Attractions Including Performances, Experience Booths, and Prize Events
Jeonju City in North Jeolla Province will hold the "Original Downtown Alley Business District Dream Festival" on June 28 at 4 p.m. in the Gyeoksagil area of Wansan-gu, aiming to revitalize the stagnant alley business districts.
According to the city on June 23, this festival is a voluntary participation event designed and led by the Original Downtown Merchants Association to promote consumption. It has been organized to attract citizens through a variety of content, including performances, hands-on experiences, and prize giveaways, and to help restore the self-sufficiency of the local business district.
This event is the second festival of the 2025 Alley Business District Dream Festival, which the city has been running from June 14 to July 13 to boost alley business districts and stimulate consumption.
On the day of the event, more than 20 diverse experience booths will be operated, including busking performances, a stage for local guest singers, a flea market, calligraphy, and bead bracelet making.
Participants in the event will also receive prizes such as discount coupons and gift certificates. In addition, there will be booths promoting the business district and tasting events, providing an opportunity to promote local small businesses and brands in the original downtown area.
On the day of the festival, awards will also be presented to individuals who have contributed to revitalizing the business district. Attendees are expected to deliver a message of mutual growth, highlighting the connection between the local business district, citizens, and the city administration. The event will be hosted by a professional MC and will feature recreation and experience-oriented programs for visitors.
The city expects that this consumption festival, held in the original downtown area?Jeonju's first commercial center and a place of deep cultural significance?will lead to the revitalization of the business district by combining historical and cultural value. The city also sees this as a valuable opportunity to shed new light on the original downtown, where tradition and modernity coexist.
Lim Sookhee, Director of the Economic and Industrial Bureau of Jeonju City, said, "The Original Downtown Dream Festival has established itself as a self-sustaining alley business district model, where merchants take the initiative in planning and communicate directly with citizens, going beyond a simple cultural event." She added, "We will continue to lay the foundation for the recovery and sustainable growth of the local business district through various culture- and consumption-linked projects."
Meanwhile, in addition to the "Alley Business District Dream Festival," the city is pursuing a variety of policies to revitalize alley business districts and the local economy, including special guarantee support projects, issuance of Jeonju Love Gift Certificates, expansion of designated alley-type shopping districts, Jeonju Matbaedal (local food delivery service), support for small and medium-sized enterprise development funds, support for small business card fees, and the Jeonju Together Market.
