Obtaining Operation Safety Certification
Baedal Minjok is unveiling a new model of its delivery robot, Dilly. The cargo compartment has been enlarged and driving performance has been improved, enabling more effective robot delivery services.
Woowa Brothers, the operator of Baedal Minjok, announced on June 23 that the third model of the Dilly delivery robot obtained outdoor mobile robot operation safety certification from the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement on June 17. Under current laws, operation safety certification is required to operate delivery robots in areas classified as sidewalks.
The next-generation model features overall performance improvements to fulfill delivery tasks more reliably than previous versions. The wheels are larger than before, allowing the robot to cross low curbs, and its ability to travel on slopes has also been enhanced.
To increase delivery efficiency, both the cargo compartment and battery have been upgraded. Previously, the compartment could hold about six 2-liter bottles of water, but the new model can carry up to 18 bottles. The battery capacity has also increased by nearly 30%, allowing for longer operation times. An LED flag has been installed to make the robot more visible to drivers on side streets.
The newly certified model is scheduled to be deployed in the field starting in August. With its improved ability to navigate steeper roads, the service area will expand, and it is expected that the robot will be able to deliver not only B Mart orders but also food deliveries.
Since February, Baemin has been piloting its Baemin B Mart robot delivery service in parts of Nonhyeon-dong and Yeoksam-dong in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Even on the busy and complex side streets of Gangnam, the robots have maintained an average delivery time of about 30 minutes, providing a stable robot delivery service.
The service has also received positive feedback in consumer surveys. Due to the high proportion of single-person households and the lack of large supermarkets in the area, the delivery robot has provided an economical and convenient grocery shopping service. In a satisfaction survey conducted among users, 9 out of 10 respondents said they would use the service again, with high satisfaction scores recorded across all aspects, including service quality and benefits.
Hwang Hyungyu, head of the Robot Product Strategy Team at Woowa Brothers, said, "We expect the new Dilly model to provide customers with faster and more reliable delivery services," adding, "We will continue to enhance our service to deliver a satisfying delivery experience to consumers in various regions."
