Culture Ministry Holds 'International Symposium on Copyright Protection' in the Philippines

Discussing Copyright Protection Measures Amid Technological Change

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on June 23 that, together with the World Intellectual Property Organization and the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines, it will hold the 'International Symposium on Copyright Protection and Enforcement' in Manila, Philippines, until June 27. The symposium will discuss effective ways to protect copyrights amid rapidly changing technological environments. Experts from ten countries?including Korea, Nigeria, South Africa, Malaysia, Vietnam, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Thailand, T?rkiye, and the Philippines?will share recent legal precedents related to copyright infringement and seek policy responses.

The Ministry will introduce the Korean government's key copyright protection and enforcement policies to other countries and promote various copyright protection activities, including the operation of an online monitoring system for copyright infringement. Lee Kyooho, professor at Chung-Ang University School of Law, will present Korea's criminal justice procedures and major copyright-related legal precedents. Choi Itaetae, Secretary General of the Copyright Overseas Promotion Association, will give a presentation on the importance of inter-agency cooperation for copyright protection.


Jung Hyangmi, Director of the Copyright Bureau at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, "We plan to share each country's policies and legal precedents regarding copyright protection and enforcement, and to seek timely joint response measures to expand legitimate distribution channels."
