Baekseok University Launches Korea's First Doctor of Optometry Program

Baekseok University announced on June 20 that it will establish the nation's first Doctor of Optometry (OD) program and begin recruiting new students for the program in the second half of this year.

The Graduate School's Optometry major held a symposium at the Cheonan campus on the same day to commemorate the launch of the doctoral program, sharing operational directions for expanding higher education in optometry and discussing domestic and international trends.

The event featured presentations on the operation of the master's and doctoral programs in optometry, introductions to digital optometry technologies and clinical cases, and expert panel discussions.

Kim Hyojin, a professor in the Department of Health Sciences, stated, "The Doctor of Optometry program will mark an important turning point for fostering specialized professionals in Korea," adding, "We will build an educational foundation through cooperation with academic communities both domestically and internationally."

Baekseok University is currently operating a master's program for the 2024 academic year and plans to continue providing clinically focused professional education centered at its Seoul campus in Bangbae-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul.
