Lim Chaeseong, Chairperson of the Sejong City Council, attended the 4th extraordinary meeting of the Council of Metropolitan and Provincial Council Chairpersons of Korea, held in Yeosu, Jeollanam-do, on June 19.


On this day, Chairperson Lim listened to reports on key agenda items of the council and cooperated in handling 21 agenda items, including proposals for institutional improvements to secure the independence of local councils.


The main agenda items adopted by the council included: ▲a proposal urging constitutional amendment for decentralization of power; ▲a proposal calling for the expansion of the Chungcheong region metropolitan railway network for balanced national development; and ▲a proposal to amend the Local Autonomy Act to enable joint proposals of local council ordinances.


Chairperson Lim stated, "The Council of Metropolitan and Provincial Council Chairpersons of Korea has served as a forum for passionate and professional discussions aimed at advancing local autonomy and balanced regional development." He added, "Through this meeting, the Sejong City Council will share its development experiences and policy cases to contribute to the advancement of local autonomy, and we promise to further strengthen cooperative relationships with cities and provinces nationwide."


He continued, "As the next regular meeting will be held in Sejong City on August 11, I kindly ask for the active participation and interest of all cities and provinces to ensure its successful hosting."
