"It Will Serve as a Definite Priming Water for Livelihood Economy Recovery"
Expectations for Revitalizing the Alley Economy with Local Love Gift Certificates
On June 20, the Gwangju City Government issued a statement expressing its "active welcome" for the first supplementary budget under the Lee Jaemyung administration, saying it "will serve as a definite priming water for the recovery of the livelihood economy on the brink."
In its statement released that day, the Gwangju City Government said, "In the current frozen economic crisis, expansionary fiscal policy is the most effective way to boost the economy," and added, "We expect that the 'Livelihood Recovery Consumption Coupon' and the 'Expansion of Local Love Gift Certificates' included in this supplementary budget will greatly help the recovery of the local alley economy."
The city has proactively launched various measures to invigorate the local economy by opening an "Alley Economy Situation Room" in line with the Lee Jaemyung administration's "Emergency Economic Response Task Force."
Key measures include: ▲ Allowing night parking on roads near local commercial districts ▲ Promoting the use of the Gwangju public delivery app ▲ Supporting one-to-one matching between city/public institutions and traditional markets or alley commercial districts.
However, the city pointed out that, considering the fact that a total of 175.9 billion KRW in general grants was not allocated over two years (2023-2024) during the previous Yoon Sukyeol administration, it is necessary to design measures that can reduce this burden.
A Gwangju City official stated, "We will continue to focus all administrative capabilities on stabilizing the livelihood economy and revitalizing local commercial districts," and emphasized, "As a national partner, we will fulfill our responsibility and mission together with the government to ensure that the new administration's policies are effectively implemented in the local field."
