[Profile] Vice Minister Kim Minjae of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety...Expert in Local Administration

Kim Minjae, who was appointed as the new Vice Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on June 20, is a seasoned expert in public administration with extensive experience in local government affairs.

Born in 1971 in Hongcheon, Gangwon Province, Vice Minister Kim graduated from the Gangwon National University High School affiliated with the College of Education and the Department of Public Administration at Hanyang University. He also earned a master's degree in public administration from the University of Washington in the United States.

Vice Minister Kim passed the 38th Higher Civil Service Examination and has held key positions since 2012, including Ethics Officer at the Ministry of Security and Public Administration, Legislative Affairs Officer, Director General for Local Administration Policy, and Director General for Planning and Coordination at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

Since December 2023, he has served as the newly established Deputy Vice Minister, a position created through the ministry's organizational restructuring. At that time, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety elevated the Local Autonomy and Balanced Development Bureau under the Vice Minister's Office to the Deputy Vice Minister level to realize the government's core initiative of the "Era of Local Government," which focused on local autonomy, local administration, and balanced development.

In addition, Vice Minister Kim has served as an administrative officer in the Presidential Protocol Office, at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), as Director General for Planning and Coordination of Gangwon Province, and as Director of Planning and Operations at the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
