Gyeonggi-do Begins Sequential Payment of "Opportunity Income" to 13,000 Artists Starting June 20

Gyeonggi-do began distributing the "Artist Opportunity Income" on June 20.

The province announced that, out of approximately 13,000 applicants, it would begin sequentially paying the first installment of 750,000 won to artists who have completed the eligibility review for the Artist Opportunity Income.

Previously, Gyeonggi-do accepted applications for the Artist Opportunity Income through Gyeonggi Minwon 24 and 28 city and county offices until May 30. Each local government is reviewing factors such as individual recognized income and whether applicants have received overlapping art activity preparation funds. The first installment of 750,000 won will be fully distributed by July, and the second installment of 750,000 won will be paid in September.

On June 21, Gyeonggi-do will host the "2025 Opportunity Income Artist Festival" at Dodamteul in the Gyeonggi Provincial Government complex, bringing together opportunity income artists and popular artists such as Jo Sungmo and Choi Kanghee. This festival will be held in conjunction with a live broadcast of "Choi Kanghee's Film Music," aiming to raise awareness and artistic capabilities of opportunity income artists, while also providing residents with an opportunity to engage with Gyeonggi-do's policies for expanding social value through the arts.

Kwak Sunmi, Director of Arts Policy at Gyeonggi-do, stated, "The Artist Opportunity Income supports the creative activities of artists in the province and helps residents more easily access culture and the arts in daily life." She added, "We also look forward to strong interest from residents in the 'Opportunity Income Artist Special Exhibition,' which will be held at venues such as the Gyeonggi Museum of Art starting in July."

Meanwhile, Gyeonggi-do reported that, as a flagship initiative of Governor Kim Dongyeon now in its third year, the Artist Opportunity Income has led to increases in both the weekly creative activity time (42 minutes per week) and monthly art activity income (30,000 won per month) of beneficiary artists. In addition, satisfaction among beneficiary artists was found to be 84.8 points, 17.8 points higher than the 67.0 points reported by general artists.
