This round of resident briefings was organized to actively incorporate residents' voices into the county's mid- to long-term regional development strategies through 2050, following Gapyeong County's official designation as a border area in March. The briefings, which began in Sang-myeon on the 12th, are being held sequentially in Buk-myeon, Cheongpyeong-myeon, Gapyeong-eup, Seorak-myeon, and Jojeong-myeon, with participation from village heads, key institution and organization leaders, and local residents.
During the briefings, Global & Local Brain Park Co., Ltd., the agency conducting the study, is introducing examples from other cities and counties, major proposed projects, and the background for these initiatives. This is followed by Q&A sessions and discussions to gather direct feedback from the field.
In particular, the briefings in each region have seen active presentation of diverse opinions from residents regarding improvements to living conditions and the overall development of the county. The county plans to reflect residents' voices as much as possible in the plan and to link them to a comprehensive plan with strong feasibility for implementation.
In addition to collecting residents' opinions, the county is also conducting a "Vision, Slogan, and Policy Proposal Contest" open to the entire nation, as well as a survey targeting Gapyeong County residents. Furthermore, the county plans to form and operate a "Resident Participation Research Group" within June, which will allow local residents to directly participate in the process of identifying projects by sector. Through these efforts, the county aims to incorporate residents' voices throughout the entire planning process and to discover policies that residents can truly feel make a difference.
A Gapyeong County official stated, "These resident briefings are an important process for creating the future vision of the region together with residents," and added, "We will not overlook any valuable opinions presented during the briefings, and will ensure that the plan does not end as a mere study but is completed as a feasible and actionable strategy."
