On the morning of June 19, Alibaba Cloud held a media briefing at the Grand Intercontinental Seoul Parnas in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, announcing that it would begin operating its second data center in South Korea by the end of this month. Alibaba Cloud entered the Korean market in 2016 and established its first data center in the country in 2022. The company emphasized that this additional data center investment, made within three years, is the result of its efforts to support the AI transformation (AX) of Korean companies.

Through the new data center, Alibaba Cloud plans to offer products optimized for AI services, including cloud-native solutions, big data, and databases (DB). In addition, the company aims to enhance the network performance of its cloud services and strengthen the disaster recovery capabilities of its core cloud products.

During the press conference, examples of domestic companies utilizing Alibaba Cloud's AI solutions were introduced. Alibaba Cloud has developed and provides large language models (LLMs) such as Qwen and Tongyi.

Univa, a Korean AI solutions company, unveiled an agent AI solution based on Qwen. Nam Myungjin, CEO of Univa, stated, "Thanks to Alibaba Cloud's cutting-edge cloud and AI technologies, we have reduced costs by more than 30 percent," adding, "We were also able to improve Korean language processing accuracy from 45 percent to 95 percent."

Snow, a subsidiary of Naver, is leveraging Alibaba Cloud's AI video generation model 'Wan' to support image styling features in its app, which is operated in China. Lara Station, a live streaming company, collaborated with Alibaba Cloud to develop a live streaming platform for the Southeast Asian market.

In addition, Alibaba Cloud has formed partnerships with domestic companies such as Megazone Soft, ETech System, and ITCen CloudIT, providing customized consulting services and industry-specific solutions.

Meanwhile, in December 2023, Alibaba Cloud obtained the Korea Information Security Management System (K-ISMS) certification for its domestic data center infrastructure. K-ISMS is regarded as the most authoritative information security certification system in South Korea.

Yoon Yongjun, Country Manager for Alibaba Cloud Intelligence Korea, stated, "Alibaba Cloud has continuously expanded its infrastructure in Korea to keep pace with the advancement of AI-based technologies and the growing digital demand across industries." He added, "With the launch of our second data center, we aim to provide customers with a more flexible and resilient cloud environment, accelerating AI innovation across various industries and contributing to the expansion of the domestic digital ecosystem."
