Nintendo Switch 2 Sells 3.5 Million Units in Four Days After May Launch
Over 2,800 Units Stolen at Once in Colorado, USA
Estimated Losses Reach $1.4 Million
As the Nintendo Switch 2 continues to gain popularity worldwide, a major theft involving the disappearance of around 3,000 units has occurred in the United States.
According to CBS and local media in Colorado on June 19, the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office announced that "a trailer driver was the victim of a theft in the town of Bennett around 8 a.m. on June 8." The stolen items were 2,810 Nintendo Switch 2 game consoles, with total damages estimated at $1.4 million (approximately 1.9243 billion KRW).
The driver told police that while he had parked his trailer at a truck stop and was conducting a pre-departure inspection, someone broke into the trailer and stole all the items inside. The driver stated he was unaware of what was inside the trailer. However, because he was driving from Nintendo's office in Redmond, Washington, to a GameStop store in Grapevine, Texas, it is presumed that the trailer was loaded with Nintendo Switch 2 consoles.
This console, the successor to Nintendo's successful Switch 1, has enjoyed tremendous popularity since the company launched the portable gaming device on June 5. The annual sales target for the Nintendo Switch 2 is 15 million units. It features a high-performance GPU that supports 4K resolution and ray tracing, based on an ARM architecture octa-core chip. The official retail price in Korea is 648,000 KRW.
Additionally, more than 3.5 million units of the Nintendo Switch 2 were sold worldwide within just four days of its release on June 5. This marks the highest global sales for any Nintendo hardware in the first four days after launch. Compared to the previous model, the new device features a larger and more responsive display, improved processing performance, game chat, and real-time game screen sharing capabilities.
