Proactive Measures Against Damage Caused by
Localized Heavy Rain, Gusts, and Strong Winds
Sacheon City in South Gyeongsang Province, in cooperation with the Sacheon branch of the Gyeongnam Outdoor Advertising Association, conducted a safety inspection of outdoor advertisements in preparation for natural disasters in 2025.
This inspection was carried out as a proactive measure to respond to damage caused by localized heavy rain, gusts, and strong winds resulting from climate change. The aim was to prevent safety accidents caused by aging or substandard outdoor advertisements in advance and to create a pleasant and safe urban environment.
The inspection focused on areas vulnerable to natural disasters, such as the coastal area around Palpo Landfill, the commercial district near Plaza No. 5 in Beolli-dong, and the area from Sacheon Bridge to the Sacheon Girls' High School Five-way Intersection. Additional attention was given to areas around multi-use facilities, commercial clusters, and roads with high pedestrian traffic.

The main inspection items included: ▲ damage to signboards and their fastening status ▲ fastening status of advertisements and buildings ▲ structural abnormalities such as corrosion or bending ▲ aging of electrical equipment and risks of electric shock.
If any risk factors were found during the inspection, immediate repair, reinforcement, or removal was carried out. For aging signboards, advertisers were advised to voluntarily carry out maintenance.
In particular, for advertisements with a high risk of falling, swift on-site responses were taken to prevent harm to citizens in advance.
The city is simultaneously carrying out maintenance and enforcement against illegal outdoor advertisements, and is encouraging self-inspection and voluntary maintenance by advertisers and citizens. Promotional campaigns will also be conducted using electronic displays at administrative welfare centers in each town and district to raise public awareness.
A city official stated, "We are thoroughly conducting safety inspections to prepare for the recurring summer season natural disasters every year," and added, "We will continue to do our best to eliminate risk factors in advance through public-private cooperation and to create a safe urban environment where citizens can feel secure."
