The Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Chairman Yang Jaesaeng) held the 273rd Busan Economic Forum on June 18 at the Busan Lotte Hotel, inviting Professor Kim Heungkyu of Ajou University to deliver a lecture on the theme of "The Rise of China During the US-China Strategic Competition and Survival Strategies for Korean Companies."
More than 170 key local business leaders and heads of institutions attended the forum, including Vice Chairmen Kang Dongseok, Lee Sutae, Moon Changseop, Jang Hoik, Park Saik, and Lee Ohseon, as well as Executive Vice Chairman Jung Hyunmin, Auditor Kim Youngdeuk, and BNK Financial Group Chairman Bin Daein.
In his lecture, Professor Kim Heungkyu explained the changes in the global economic order centered on the US and China, diagnosing the current era as a time of crisis in which great power centralism and the law of the jungle, reminiscent of the 19th century, have resurfaced. He emphasized the need to strengthen economic security strategies based on the stability of domestic politics and trust in democracy, stating that this is necessary to protect the national economy and corporate interests.
Lee Ohseon, Chairman of Donga Plating Co., Ltd., who attended the lecture, said, "I realized that we should not confine ourselves solely to our alliance with the United States, but also consider cooperation with China," and added, "I hope that, in these challenging times for the regional economy, businesspeople will actively communicate and share information to seek solutions together."
Prior to the forum, the IR Stage featured Lee Hojun, CEO of Korea Green Data, who introduced the company's energy efficiency management platform service, drawing significant attention in line with the growing trend of ESG management. Lee Hojun said, "It was meaningful to introduce our startup and network with business leaders through the Busan Economic Forum," and added, "I hope this provides an opportunity for startups to leap forward through exchanges with experienced local entrepreneurs."
