Fake News About Family Background Spreads
Unauthorized Use of OA Entertainment Logo
Blackpink's Jenny has won a lawsuit against an individual, referred to as A, who falsely claimed to be her biological father. According to the court ruling obtained by Woman Sense on June 18, the Goyang Branch of the Uijeongbu District Court ruled on May 9 that "it is reasonable to consider A's claim of being Jenny's biological father as false," and upheld Jenny's request to prohibit the distribution of the relevant publication. Defendant A and publishing company B are required to destroy all copies of the book, and A must also delete all Jenny-related posts, photos, and profile pictures from his social networking service (SNS) accounts.
This case originated from a novel published by A. The book prominently claimed that Jenny was A's daughter, and it was confirmed that the logo of Jenny's agency, OA Entertainment, was used on the cover without authorization. After the book's release, speculation and fake news about Jenny's family background spread rapidly through online communities and social media, fueling further controversy. In response, Jenny and OA Entertainment filed a lawsuit in December of last year against A and publishing company B to prohibit the distribution of the publication. The lawsuit was handled by Yulchon, a major domestic law firm, and Jenny herself did not attend the court proceedings.
The court stated, "Jenny's family relation certificate lists someone other than A as her father, and there is no evidence supporting A's claim of being her biological father aside from his own assertion," concluding that A's claim was false. The court also found that "the defendant's book and SNS activities could mislead people into believing that Jenny had consented to the publication," and judged this to be a clear violation of her personal rights. The court ordered A to destroy all copies of the publication, delete all Jenny-related SNS posts, and refrain from any future broadcasts or interviews regarding Jenny.
Additionally, the court ordered the defendant not to make any statements about Jenny in future media appearances or interviews. All litigation costs are to be borne by the defendant. However, the court did not issue an immediate enforcement order or impose a fine, explaining that this case pertains to a violation of personal rights rather than property rights. Meanwhile, Jenny's side has stated, "Baseless false claims and unauthorized publications clearly constitute defamation," and emphasized their intention to respond strongly to any similar incidents in the future.
