POSCO International Delivers 300 Million KRW Rural and Fishing Village Win-Win Cooperation Fund

Support Project for Community Energy Efficiency and Welfare Improvement

Gwangyang City in South Jeolla Province announced on June 18 that on the previous day, at the meeting room of City Hall, POSCO International (CEO Lee Gyein) delivered 300 million KRW from the Rural and Fishing Village Win-Win Cooperation Fund to the Gwangyang City Love Sharing Welfare Foundation (Chairman Kim Jaekyung) as part of Gwangyang City's energy efficiency and welfare improvement support project.


POSCO International established this fund to fulfill its corporate social responsibility and to create a sustainable local community where cities and rural areas can prosper together, following POSCO Group Chairman Chang Inhwa's volunteer activities in the Gwangyang area. The fund will be used for energy efficiency projects such as replacing windows and installing heating and cooling systems in old houses and long-term care facilities for vulnerable groups in Gwangyang's rural and fishing communities.

In addition, the fund will be broadly used for various welfare projects, including replacing old vehicles at welfare facilities for people with disabilities and supporting educational programs at local children's centers.


Mayor Jung Inhwa stated, "Gwangyang is an urban-rural complex city where rural and urban areas coexist in harmony, and this Rural and Fishing Village Win-Win Cooperation Fund further highlights that meaning," adding, "I deeply thank POSCO International for contributing to the realization of a warm and inspiring era in Gwangyang."


Jung Sangkyung, Head of Management Support at POSCO International, said, "We will continue to work closely with Gwangyang City to build a vibrant and healthy community where everyone can grow and smile together," adding, "I hope this cooperation fund will make a tangible difference in the quality of life for people in Gwangyang's rural and fishing communities and serve as a valuable foundation for building a sustainable community."


Kim Jaekyung, Chairman of the Gwangyang City Love Sharing Welfare Foundation, commented, "I sincerely thank POSCO International for setting an exemplary standard of corporate social responsibility with this generous donation," adding, "The donated fund will be actively used for a variety of projects to improve social welfare in Gwangyang City."


Meanwhile, POSCO International is currently expanding its LNG terminal within the Gwangyang National Industrial Complex and is promoting a district energy project for regional electricity supply. In cooperation with POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks, the company is also carrying out a project to install ramps for the creation of a barrier-free city. In addition, POSCO International continues to engage in various social contribution activities, such as installing solar power facilities at social welfare institutions, creating safe routes home, and providing assistance to sister villages.
