Revisiting 40 Years of Urban Rail: Transportation Welfare and Social Value
Over 100 Experts and Citizens to Participate... Event to Be Held at BEXCO on the 19th
Busan Transportation Corporation is organizing a forum to discuss the social value of public transportation and future strategies in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the opening of Metro Line 1.
Busan Transportation Corporation (President Lee Byungjin) and the Busan Public Transportation Future Forum announced on the 17th that they will hold a policy discussion on the 19th at 3:00 p.m. in rooms 214 and 215 on the second floor of BEXCO Exhibition Center I. The theme will be "The Social Value of Public Transportation."
This event has been planned to review the achievements of Busan Metro Line 1, which opened in July 1985, over the past 40 years, and to seek ways to spread social value, including revitalizing public transportation and expanding transportation welfare. More than 100 participants, including officials from Busan City, the city council, academia, civic groups, and citizens, are expected to attend.
The keynote presentations will be delivered in the following order: Kim Donggeun, Director of Passenger Business at Busan Transportation Corporation, with "40 Years of Urban Rail, Running Through Busan. The Next Station is Tomorrow"; Park Dalhyeok, Executive Director of the Busan Bus Association, with "60 Years of Busan City Buses"; and Yoo Hansol, Research Fellow at Busan Institute, with "Busan’s Public Transportation from the Perspective of Social Value."
The subsequent panel discussion will be chaired by Professor Shin Kangwon of Kyungsung University, with participation from Kim Jaeun, Chair of the Construction and Transportation Committee of the Busan City Council; Oh Moonbeom, Secretary General of Busan YMCA; Lee Sangyun, Editorial Writer at Busan Ilbo; Lee Jun, Director of the Korea Railroad Research Institute; and Hwang Hyuncheol, Director of the Busan City Transportation Innovation Bureau. They will discuss policy directions and ways to expand the social role of public transportation.
This forum will be held in conjunction with the "2025 Busan International Railroad Technology & Industry Exhibition" (June 18?21), and is expected to draw attention from domestic and international transportation experts.
Lee Byungjin, President of Busan Transportation Corporation, stated, "This will be a meaningful occasion to look back on the journey of Busan’s public transportation and to discuss strategies to strengthen citizen-centered transportation services in the future," adding, "We will continue our efforts to realize transportation welfare."
