Civil Protection Unit Conducts Training
Assuming a Chemical Missile Attack Scenario
On June 17 at 2:00 p.m., Yangsan City in South Gyeongsang Province successfully conducted the "2025 Chungmu Training Actual Exercise" in the Hwangsan Park area, further strengthening its capabilities for resident protection.
This exercise focused on mastering the operation of the Civil Protection Unit, assuming a large-scale casualty scenario caused by an enemy chemical missile attack. It was held as part of the Chungmu Training for the Gyeongnam region, which took place for the first time in three years, and was conducted as an emergency preparedness exercise with a focus on public safety.
The training scenario simulated an emergency situation in the early stages of wartime, with an enemy chemical missile attacking Yangsan ICD, contaminating certain areas and causing numerous casualties.
Approximately 300 participants from 21 related organizations and volunteer groups?including Yangsan City, the 39th Division, Gimhae-Yangsan Battalion, Ammunition Support Command (9th Ammunition Depot), Yangsan Police Station, and Yangsan Fire Station?collaborated to test their cooperation and response capabilities under realistic conditions.
The main components of the exercise included: operation of the Civil Protection Unit; resident relief and mass casualty management; chemical, biological, and radiological battalion decontamination operations; response and elimination of enemy special forces infiltrating the relief headquarters; fire suppression; explosive ordnance disposal; and emergency facility restoration. These activities fostered seamless cooperation among the involved organizations in a realistic training environment.
In particular, Mayor Nadongyeon directly participated in the exercise, overseeing the operation of the Civil Protection Unit, reviewing his role as the control tower during emergencies, and closely monitoring every stage of the training.

Military equipment such as decontamination vehicles and armored vehicles, as well as firefighting equipment, were displayed at the training site. Various experiential programs?including survival activities, gas mask fitting experiences, and promotions for the "Find Nearby Shelters" Safety Didimdol app?were also offered, receiving an enthusiastic response from observing citizens.
Mayor Nadongyeon emphasized, "Through close cooperation between related organizations and groups, as demonstrated in this Chungmu Training Actual Exercise, we can further strengthen our rapid and effective response system in the event of a disaster," highlighting the importance of ongoing collaboration to reinforce the community's safety net.
