The Korea Association of Mayors, County Governors, and District Heads announced on June 18 that it held the "4th Joint Chairpersons' Meeting of the 3rd Year of the 8th Elected Term" at the MBC Convention Jinju in Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province.

This meeting began with an opening address by Cho Jaegu, the association's president (Nam District, Daegu), and a welcoming speech by Cho Gyuil, Mayor of Jinju and Chairman of the South Gyeongsang Association of Mayors and County Governors, who also served as host for the event. The joint chairpersons, representing mayors, county governors, and district heads from across the country, were in attendance.

In his welcome address, Mayor Cho Gyuil stated, "Since this is the first meeting held since the launch of the new administration, I hope it will serve as a bridgehead for cooperation and mutual growth."

He continued, "Jinju is hosting the '2025 Korea Garden Industry Expo' from June 13 to 22," and added, "I invite you to experience firsthand the future vision of Jinju as a garden city aspiring to have Wolasan designated as a national garden."

During the meeting, the 9th Local Autonomy Awards ceremony was also held, and a joint proposal titled "Our Hopes for the New Administration" was adopted and announced. This proposal included calls for expanding the authority of local governments, promoting balanced regional development, and enhancing fiscal independence.

The main agenda items discussed included joint cooperation measures to address local government issues and follow-up action plans for preventing major accidents at local government organizations. The participants sought practical policy responses on these matters.

After the meeting, the joint chairpersons visited Chojun Park in Jinju, the venue for the "2025 Korea Garden Industry Expo," where they toured the site and shared visions for the future of the garden industry and regional industries.

The association plans to continue gathering voices for the advancement of local autonomy through ongoing meetings and to strengthen its cooperative framework with the central government.

Meanwhile, the Korea Association of Mayors, County Governors, and District Heads is a consultative body composed of heads of basic local governments nationwide. It aims to improve the quality of life for residents and promote balanced regional development through the realization of local autonomy and mutual cooperation among local governments.
