The National Police Agency announced on June 18 that it held a regular meeting of the Fraud Prevention Advisory Committee and gathered expert opinions on major current issues.
The Fraud Prevention Advisory Committee is an advisory body under the National Police Agency, established in September 2023 to enhance the expertise and systematic approach of policies for responding to fraud crimes. It is composed of 12 members, including experts from the government, academia, legal circles, and the private sector.
The police explained that although they have been strengthening crackdowns on malicious fraud crimes such as voice phishing and investment-leading group scams, the upward trend in fraud crimes continues due to online and non-face-to-face methods. The advisory committee members advised that, in addition to crackdowns, it is necessary to strengthen a structural response system, including the prevention of damage and blocking of criminal methods.
A National Police Agency official stated, "We will actively reflect the various opinions presented at this advisory committee meeting in future policy and institutional improvement processes, and plan to further strengthen domestic and international cooperation systems in conjunction with the International Fraud Prevention Conference scheduled for September."
