Uijeongbu "Shared Factory" to Be Completed by End of June... Remodeling of Infectious Disease Screening Center

The "Shared Factory Remodeling" project in Uijeongbu-dong, Uijeongbu-si, Gyeonggi-do is scheduled for completion at the end of June 2025.

The Shared Factory, which will be completed this time, is being established at 161-11 Uijeongbu-dong, Uijeongbu-si. It involves remodeling a former infectious disease screening center, which had been left unused after the COVID-19 pandemic, transforming it into an urban regeneration hub space that can be utilized by both local residents and merchants.

This space will host a variety of community-tailored programs, including a pilot project for a preprocessing service that covers joint purchasing of raw materials for traditional markets, small-scale packaging, and delivery. It will also offer startup incubating and cooking competitions.

In collaboration with local universities, new recipes using traditional market ingredients will be developed, and a program to foster young entrepreneurs preparing for the food service industry will also be promoted. Additionally, a specialized alleyway business district brand will be developed to increase appeal among both young and middle-aged residents.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Government expects this project to help rediscover the unique charm of traditional business districts in the old city center, attract new consumer groups by operating various programs utilizing local resources, and thereby revitalize the stagnant commercial area and contribute to the local economy.

Kim Tae-su, Director of Urban Regeneration at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "The Shared Factory will become a model case of urban regeneration by utilizing idle spaces in the old city center," adding, "We will actively support the project to drive tangible changes and outcomes that residents can truly feel, based on the region's unique assets."
