The Name Will Be Decided Through a Three-Day Public Contest
Submitted Policy Agendas to Be Discussed by Topic
A public communication platform that allows citizens to directly submit policy suggestions and civil complaints to the new government is scheduled to open on June 18.
Cho Seungrae, spokesperson for the National Planning Committee, stated during a briefing at the Changseong-dong annex of the Government Complex Seoul on June 17, "We will conduct a final inspection with the goal of launching the public communication platform tomorrow," adding, "We plan to determine the platform's official name through a public contest over the next three days." Suggestions submitted through the platform will be processed using AI and big data technologies.
Spokesperson Cho explained, "Through the public communication platform, there will be topic-based discussions on designated agendas," and noted, "Unlike 'Gwanghwamun 1st Street,' the policy proposal platform introduced at the launch of the Moon Jae-in administration, where proposals were adopted based on the number of likes and recommendations, this new platform will operate differently."
The National Planning Committee plans to establish task forces (TFs) in addition to its current seven subcommittees (Planning, Economy 1·2, Society 1·2, Political Administration, Foreign Affairs and Security). Of these, a total of four TFs?including 'National Vision,' 'Organizational Restructuring,' 'Five-Year National Operation Plan,' and 'Fiscal Policy in Accordance with the National Plan'?will be organized mainly under the Planning subcommittee. The Tax Reform TF will be formed under the Economy 1 subcommittee. Preparations are also underway to establish a Special Committee for Balanced Development.
Spokesperson Cho said, "The framework is already taking shape," and added, "The final number of TF participants will be decided at the Operations Committee meeting tomorrow." The Operations Committee serves as a control tower, comprehensively coordinating and reviewing discussion topics from each subcommittee on a daily basis. Lee Hanju, chairperson of the National Planning Committee, will also serve as chair of the Operations Committee.
From June 18 to 20, the National Planning Committee will stay in Sejong City for three days to hear reports on the status of each ministry's work. On the first day, the Economy 1 subcommittee, which includes the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and the Economy 2 subcommittee, which includes the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, are scheduled to deliver their reports.
