On June 17, Gyeongbuk Province held a strategy briefing session at the Gyeongbuk Provincial Government Office to reflect the province's core policy issues as national policy tasks in line with the new government's policy direction.
This briefing session was organized as the National Policy Planning Committee, which serves as the transition team for the Lee Jaemyung administration, was launched and the establishment of the government's roadmap and policy tasks began in earnest. The purpose was to concretize and restructure the regional pledges proposed by Gyeongbuk during the election process to align with the new government's policy direction and ensure their inclusion in government policy.
The session was attended by Kim Hakhong, Deputy Governor for Administrative Affairs, Yang Geumhee, Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs, senior officials including directors and bureau chiefs, as well as the Gyeongbuk Research Institute. They discussed analyses of the new government's policy directions by sector and response strategies.
Gyeongbuk Province plans to further detail its seven major regional pledges for the new government, including city and county-level pledges, by expanding them with more specific sub-projects. In addition, major provincial policy issues not included in the regional pledges will be actively pursued by linking them to the new government's policy commitments.
The new government's major regional pledges include the creation of a smart logistics complex at the Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport and the expansion of Yeongilman Port, successful hosting of APEC, fostering the bio industry, development of secondary batteries and future vehicles, green steel and hydrogen industries, restoration of the Nakdong River, review of establishing a medical school and attracting a top-tier general hospital, and expansion of a comprehensive transportation network.
To this end, on June 12, Gyeongbuk Province launched the "Gyeongbuk New Government Policy Task Planning and Promotion Team," which brings together the province, city and county governments, and a private advisory panel, to focus on ensuring that local issues, including presidential pledges, are reflected in national policy tasks.
The new government has presented ABCDEF [AI (Artificial Intelligence), Bio (Biotechnology), Contents (Cultural Contents), Defense (Defense Industry), Energy (Hydrogen + Secondary Batteries), Future Manufacturing] as its new growth strategy. This aligns with the industries in which Gyeongbuk has strengths and has consistently emphasized, such as AI, biotechnology, defense, hydrogen, secondary batteries, and semiconductors. Accordingly, Gyeongbuk plans to actively promote the "Gyeongbuk-style ABCDEFG" strategy, which adds the globalization (Global) of its key industries to the new government's policy direction.
At the briefing session, in addition to regional pledges, discussions were also held on key issues that should be included in the new government's national policy tasks. These include the enactment and innovative revision of a special law on wildfires, post-APEC projects, expansion of cultural and tourism infrastructure such as fostering K-contents, and the development of advanced industries such as virtual convergence, AI, and energy.
Following today's departmental briefing session, Gyeongbuk Province will hold a policy meeting with planning department heads from the province and city and county governments on June 19. The province plans to gather input from the field and continue to actively make recommendations to the new government.
Kim Hakhong, Deputy Governor for Administrative Affairs, stated, "Our goal is to respond quickly to the launch of the new government's National Policy Planning Committee and maximize the reflection of Gyeongbuk's agenda in national policy tasks." He emphasized, "We have identified many convincing and essential issues for both the region and the nation, and we will do our utmost to ensure they are included in national policy tasks."
Yang Geumhee, Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs, explained the crisis facing the regional economy and announced, "In line with the new government's policy direction, we will actively cooperate and launch and operate an 'Emergency Economic Response Task Force' to help lead Korea to become a top-tier nation."
